This Day in Submarine History

24 February 1956 – As a Congressman from Michigan, Gerald Ford, (former LTCDR USN), along with eight other Congressmen visited the USS Nautilus with Admiral Hyman Rickover for an overnight cruise. Nautilus was commanded by CDR Eugene P. (Dennis) Wilkinson, later the first President of INPO (Institute of Nuclear Power Operations). Upon their return the next morning the Congressmen toured the NLON Submarine Base.
