This Day in Submarine History

25 July 1945 USS Toro (SS 422), while on lifeguard duty, rescued three British aviators afloat on a raft. Two days later a U.S. Army Air Corps Flier in a crippled P-51 Mustang circled Toro and was rescued after parachuting out. Within the next several days she rescued two additional Army Air Corps pilots.
