3 March 1961 – The submarine tender USS Proteus (AS 19) opens Fleet Ballistic Site One in Holy Lock Scotland (located off the Firth of Clyde). It is the first of the original three locations for Fleet Ballistic Missile refit facilities. The second and third will be Rota, Spain and Guam.
