15 March 2000 – A sad but proud day for Hawkbill: on this date the USS Hawkbill (SSN 666) was decommissioned at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after 29 years of faithful service. It was the last of the ‘short hull‘ Sturgeon class to be decommissioned. Hawkbill’s spirit continues on as the sail from the decommissioned Hawkbill is on display in Arco, Idaho next to the Science Center.
