Old Business:

Bob Skinner gave an update on the USS IDAHO commissioning committee. The crew visit with the CO, COB and their wives and crew members has been cancelled due to the needs of the Navy.  There is hope they will return for the July 4th celebration in 2024.

CMM fundraising on 20 May at Idaho Falls Sam’s Club from 9am to 4pm.

The Arco Science Center will be staffed by HAWKBILL members starting Memorial Day weekend. The USS HAWKBILL crew plans on sending 8 former crew members over Atomic Days on July 15th. Scott Ullsperger has set up a ceremony to recognize these sailors, this will be at 1400 Saturday July 15th.  He also stated that a working party may be needed to clean up the area prior to the event.  Any base members who desire to have a memorial brick please coordinate with Scott U. to have a group order as the plaques have high shipping costs. The bricks are available for $60.

Gregg Smith indicated that members should visit the HAWKBILL website and to join the Facebook pages for the group. More visits to the sites will improve overall internet visibility. Paypal is now available on the website with Venmo to follow to allow for electronic donations and dues payments.

Don Hulse discussed the Float schedule and indicated he is getting busy but if anyone was aware of an event where the float should attend to contact him.

Rich Magnuson stated that Champ’s Heart is looking for veterans to volunteer and to receive therapy, and they had placed a new horse into service.

Ross C. has agreed with the Blackfoot Elks lodge to raise funds for the base by providing security at the Idaho State Fair demolition derby. 4-5 volunteers will be needed from 5PM to Midnight on September 9th. This will earn the base $400 and is the only new fundraising event this year.

The oath of office was administered for the following positions: Secretary / Treasurer Scott Ullsperger; Sr. Vice Commander – Gregg Smith; Storekeeper Bob Beckwith, Jr. Vice Commander – Darrell Pfannenstiel will be sworn in at a later date.

New Business

Ross C. presented a new presentation plan for the campers at CMM. It would lower overall cost and give the campers a new item for each year that they attend. We would present them with rank insignia that would promote them for each year they attended.

Ross Carroll discussed the memorial ceremony for the three service members who died during the SL-1 explosion at the EBR-1 museum on 5 May at 1PM.

Ross Carroll discussed the Peaks to Craters filming that will occur at the Idaho Science Center on June 5th.

The tolling of the boats will be on 5/29/2023 at Freeman park during the field of honor celebration.

Financial Report:

To be updated once I get added to the Idaho Central Credit Union account.
