Old Business:

  1. USS Idaho Committee – The christening of the USS Idaho occurred at 10 AM EST  16 March.  There was a watch party at the museum of Idaho at 6PM Saturday night where we sampled the SPUD beer brewed by IBC.  There was about 130 people attending the party.
  • Idaho Science Center – in May a working party needs to go to the museum to clean up and rearrange the exhibits currently displayed in the navy building. Scott is putting together a plaque order for Arco.  Anyone interested contact Scott.
  • Gregg Smith indicated that members should visit the HAWKBILL website and to join the Facebook and Instagram pages. More visits to the sites will improve overall internet visibility. PayPal and Venmo are now available on the website to allow for electronic donations and dues payments.
  • Ross and Scott attended the February 26th Arco city council meeting and nominated Ellie Signor as an honorary submariner.
  • The Idaho SPUD beer has been brewed by the Idaho Brewing Company and will be bottled on March 22.  IBC will open early on the 22nd to allow Hawkbill members to purchase the beer.  The beer will be available to the public at Broulims in Ammon on the 26th of March.
  • The first Camp Magical Moments Sam’s club fund raiser is scheduled for April 27th.

New Business

  1. We plan on having a fall 2024 BBQ, Fred Kovach has agreed to head the committee and have the BBQ at his house.  Anyone wanting to work with Fred on the committee is encouraged to volunteer. The fall BBQ is scheduled for September 21st.
  • Ralph Van Lieu has set up a program with Jersey Mikes Subs in Idaho Falls where Camp Magical Moments will receive 10% of the proceeds of all sales on Friday April 26th.  Jersey Mikes is located across in Ammon at 2681 E Sunnyside Road Suite E.
  • Ross gave out information concerning joining forces with the County military affairs committees.  These committees can aid veteran in a variety of programs including Legal assistance, Estate planning and more.  Ross is working with with Bannock/Bingham counties and Scott is the point of contact for Bonneville County.
  • Hawkbill base would like to do more for the Pocatello community.  Items discussed include identifying events where we could place the table and banner and a food drive.  Anyone interested from the Pocatello area please help us coordinate these activities.
  • As part of our recruiting efforts, we want to place out table and banner at more locations.  Anyone having information on possible sites please share this information.  Possible locations discussed include the IF farmers market, car shows, the duck race…. Scott has identified the Arts Muffler / North Highway café car show in early June.
  • April 9th will be submarine day at the Idaho state veterans’ home in Pocatello.  Ross will be leading a discussion on the USS Idaho to the attendees.  Anyone wanting to participate in an hour-long presentation please contact Ross.
