Old Business:

Marty S. and Don H. gave an update on the USS IDAHO commissioning committee. A crew visit with the CO, COB and their wives and crew members is scheduled for 27 June to 6 July. The schedule for the visit is firming up with receptions in Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Ketchum and Twin Falls. The crew will be attending a BBQ and a Chukars game on July 2nd. Gregg S. has volunteered to be the visit coordinator while Ross is in Alaska. Don H. also mentioned that the committee will be chartering a plane to fly from Idaho to Connecticut for the commissioning ceremony.

CMM fundraising starts on 22 April at Idaho Falls Sam’s Club. Contact Ross to sign up.

The Arco Science Center will be staffed by HAWKBILL members starting Memorial Day weekend. The USS HAWKBILL crew plans on sending 3 to 4 former crew members over Atomic Days. Any base members who desire to have a memorial brick please coordinate with Scott U. to have a group order as the plaques have high shipping costs.

Greg Smith shared that members should visit the HAWKBILL website and to join the Facebook pages for the group. More visits to the sites will improve overall internet visibility. Gregg and Lisa have donated the $400 for the costs of the website from their foundation to allow for additional changes and upgrades to the new site.   Paypal will be available shortly on the website with Venmo to follow to allow for electronic donations and dues payments.

Champ’s Heart received 3 replacement horses. There currently are over 150 kids on the waiting list for therapy. The foundation is planning a gala fundraising event in October at the Mountain America Center. MAC has donated use of the building for their event. One of the veterans receiving therapy has improved to the point of volunteering to help with future therapy.

Marty S. and Ross C. talked about the upcoming event at the Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen. It occurs on Saturday March 25th. Marty S. will cook and a couple of volunteers are still needed to help serve and cleanup with shifts starting at 10AM.

Ross C. has agreed with the Blackfoot Elk’s lodge to raise funds for the base by providing security at the Idaho State Fair demolition derby. 4-5 volunteers will be needed from 5PM to Midnight on September 9th. This will earn the base $400 and is the only new fundraising event this year.

Elections will be held next meeting. There is currently only one candidate for each position. Anyone desiring to be considered please contact Ross to be added to the ballot.

New Business

Ross C. is looking for a base representative to lead the tolling of the boats in Idaho Falls on Memorial Day. The date and time are still TBD due to all of the planning for the weekend.

Mr. Vandersloot donated his private plane and fuel for the most recent honor flight from Idaho Falls to Washington DC.

The Submarine Birthday Ball is scheduled for 8 April at the Blackfoot Elk’s Lodge. Cocktail hour starts at 1600 with dinner at 1700. Prices will be $35 for prime rib and shrimp and $25 for chicken. Please contact Ross C. if you desire to attend so an accurate headcount is achieved. Denny, Gregg, Van, Ross, Larry, Bob B., Rich, George, Tony, Ken and Tom have currently paid and reserved their meals.
