Delmer Lemar Crawford GM1 – April 9, 1945 – USS Snook (SS-279) Snook arrived on station in the South China Sea on her ninth War Patrol on 8 April 1945 and reported her position to the submarine Tigrone (SS 419). The next day she did not acknowledge messages from Tigrone. On 20 April she was ordered to search for downed aviators but did not respond. Submarine USS Bang (SS 395) responded and rescued the airmen but failed to contact Snook. It was theorized that she was sunk by either depth charge or in an encounter with a Japanese Submarine near Okinawa. Snook sunk 17 vessels and earned seven battle stars in her two and a half years in combat. Delmer Crawford was from Notus, Idaho
