The Coast Guard reported the seizure of more than 9 tons of cocaine in the Pacific off of Mexico, Central America and South America in November with an estimated street value of more than 239 million dollars. The largest single seizure was of 5,500 pounds found on a narco-submarine. It was the first time in over three years that a narco-submarine was intercepted in the eastern Pacific. Each narco sub (sometimes referred to as a drug-sub typically costs about 2 million dollars to construct on average they are about 59 feet long can reach speeds of almost 10 knots , can carry up to 10 tons of cargo and a range that is trans-Atlantic capable.
