Idaho Eternal Patrol

Frederic Howard Christy CS2 – March 15, 1943 – USS Triton (SS-201) Triton began her sixth and last War Patrol on February 16, 1943 near Rabaul. On 11 March Triton Reported she was chasing two convoys. On dates previous to that she had survived a depth charging and the circular run of one of her torpedoes which was avoided by going deep. On 13 March was advised of three enemy destroyers in her area hunting for American Submarines. On March 15th Triton reported she was depth charged and could still hear distant depth charging. Following the cessation of hostilities Japanese War Records indicated three destroyers had attacked a submarine a little northwest of Triton’s assigned Patrol Area and observed an oil slick. It was concluded the Triton was probably sunk by depth charge attack Between Rabaul and Shortlands Basin. Among those lost were John Holbrook Eichmann LT (XO)  from Boise, Idaho and Frederic Howard Christy CS2 was from Blackfoot, Idaho
