During this holiday season I find myself reflecting on the past year and the incredible success the crew of the IDAHO has enjoyed. It is with immense pride that I report on our recent milestones — achievements that have not only met expectations, but have shattered them. The ship recently completed its initial sea trials, a rigorous test of every system onboard. I am thrilled to announce that these were not just successful; they were the best and most efficient sea trials in the entire history of the VIRGINIA class.
Furthermore, the initial operation and testing of our reactor and propulsion systems were recognized by Navy leadership as the most efficient and well-executed evolution of its kind in several years. This is a testament to the relentless preparation and technical expertise of our sailors. Beyond the machinery and the metrics, the heart of this submarine — the crew — has truly come alive. They have taken complete ownership of the ship, transitioning from a construction detachment to a fully operational warfighting team. In record time, they have risen to the high standards set by the most seasoned crews in the fleet, displaying a level of proficiency and professionalism that usually takes years to cultivate.
None of this wild success could have happened without our families by our side. I am so grateful for your support, whether it’s long duty days in port or time away at sea, your patience, understanding and encouragement mean the world to us and allow us to do our job. As we reflect upon our excellent progress, we do not rest on our laurels. We look forward to continued success at sea and are eagerly preparing for our commissioning next year. Thank you for standing with us as we prove that the IDAHO does not only represent the Gem State, it is truly the Gem of the Fleet.
