1) Committee/Routine Reports 

a) USS Idaho Committee – Don Boesiger/Marty Sattison.  Commissioning April 25th 

i) Thu – SubSchool/BBQ/Outerlight Brewery, Fri – SubSchool Graduation, Sat – Commissioning. 

Marty reported we are 1 month away from Commissioning week and if you haven’t requested tickets, it is probably too late.

Ross stated there will be about 14 Hawkbill Base members in attendance.

c)              b) Public Relations/Social Media – Gregg stated that the website has 157 followers and has had over 17,000 hits.

d)              Camp Magical Moments – Ross, Camp June 14th -20th.  1st Culvers complete, 2nd March 26th 

Ross reported CMM has 20 kids this year and our day is 20 June.

e)              Acro Science Center – Scott, Brass Plaque Purchase, Boise Base at Atomic Days, Spring Clean-up?. 

Scott floated the idea for a Science Center cleanup on May 22.

f)               Champs Heart update. – Maggie reported Champs Heart will be closed next week for spring cleanup and for the last 3 Fridays there have been about 10 veterans and family members.

Ross reported that the Hawkbill Base is donating $1000.00 to Champs Heart this year.

f) Joining Forces – MAC Meetings – Ross/Scott 

i) Bannock County Basic Legal Assistance – 3rd Wed. each month, Lawyers needed. 

ii) Bannock County Veteran’s Memorial Building – 100-year Celebration, 25 May. 

iii) Field of Hero’s Century High School 18 – 25 May. Security, volunteers 

Scott said he maintains a calendar of all military/veteran related events which is locate on the web at https://idahofallspost56.org.

2) Old Business 

a)              Eternal Patrol Memorial – Dedication Ceremony Sunday 24 May, reception @ IBC/Wolf. Gregg Smith reported he delivered the slab poure plans to the city last week and he described the changes made to the memorial as a result of discovering more names which need to be added to the stone.

b)              Idaho Honor Flight – 6 June Commissioning, 1st Mission Funded, https://IdahoHonorFlight.org. Ross reported you can be on the Honor flight if you were a veteran up to 1975 and next year it will be extended to include all of the veterans who served through the gulf wars, and we have been sponsored by a nationwide conglomerate whose name can’t be disclosed until they decide to announce it.

c)              Next Hawkbill Field Trip – INL Treat Facility, Add EBR?  Long or Short day?  Scott says he is working on a field trip to the TREAT reactor probably in May.

d)              USS Idaho Float status.   New bunting. Ross reported the float is supposed to be in the paint shop and we are working on obtaining new bunting. He believes we will have it back in our possession by Memorial Day (May 25).

e)              SK Food Drive – $2217 raised, brings total to $2816, Board recommends $1500 to Soup Kitchen. 

f)               Eternal Patrol Ceremony, Ken Kohler, April 25th.  Idaho Falls Eagles Lodge. 

3) New Business 

a)              SubBall, 11 Apr, Prime Rib – $43, Chicken – $25.  Board recommends contributing $10 per ticket. A motion was approved for the club to supplement each plate by $10.00.

i) Last year 48 guests.

ii) Pay at the Dinner. 

b)              Hawkbill Meeting format and seating. There was discussion on having the attending board members sit at the head table during the meeting.

c)              Vote in USSVI elections! 

d)              Charitable Foundation Scholarship application period ends May 18th. 

e)              Possible new “Garage Sale” format, @ IBC. – Gregg Smith

f)               Next meeting, 18 April, Greg Smith, Senior Vice Commander 

4) Good of the Order 

a) Annual Convention, Corpus Christi, Sep 6-11, 2026…. Hawkbill donated $366.00 to Convention.

The house of Dave Holliday a Pittsburgh PA member of USSVI burned down. A motion was passed to donate $500.00 to Dave.

5) 50/50   Karen Long won $145.00 and donated it to the USSVI member whose house burned down. The other $145.00 went to the USSVISF.

Roberta Matoulis, a Community Resource Specialist for the state of Idaho gave a presentation about supporting veterans in need. In January 2025, she coordinated $70K worth of assistance to local veterans. Her group doesn’t use tax money, only donations from non-profit organizations.

  • Committee/Routine Reports
    • USS Idaho Committee – Ross stated that there were more commissioning ticket requests than any of the previous commission ceremonies. Tickets can still be requested but should be done in February. He also presented a plan to purchase CO/XO/COB command plaques. It was voted on and approved. Marty Sattison talked about current events on the IDAHO.
      • Planning Committee. Thu – SubSchool/BBQ/Outerlight Brewery, Fri – SubSchool Graduation, Sat – Commissioning……CO/XO/COB command plaques.
    • Public Relations/Social Media – Gregg stated that the website now has over 16,000 hits.
    • Camp Magical Moments – Ross reported the dates for the upcoming camp are 14-20 June.
    • Acro Science Center – Scott stated that to have a plaque ordered in time they should be completed before the end of May. Ross stated that the Boise SubVets were going to take part in Atomic Days.
    • Champs Heart update. – Maggie stated that they just received a $5,000 donation from the Blackfoot Elk’s Lodge that will be used for new upgrades and that they provided 5500 rides in 2025.
    • Joining Forces – MAC Meetings – Ross spoke of several upcoming events in the community and stated that 2/23 will be the ribbon cutting of the Bannock County Veterans Building.
      • Bannock County VSO Estate Planning – April 17th Chubbuck
      • Veteran Family Fair – ISU Idaho Falls – May 16th, 1000 – 1300
      • Veteran Home Poky – Coffee w/Vets 2nd Tues each month 11-12.  Volunteers for Cantina.
      • ID Cards @ National Guard Office Poky…. Limited days, only Thur/Fri.
  • Old Business
    • Eternal Patrol Memorial – Gregg spoke of the dedication memorial, funds received and the reception 5/24/2026 that will be held at IBC.
    • Idaho Honor Flight – Ross talked about the 6 June commissioning and stated he will be going to DC for a convention.
    • Next Hawkbill Field Trip – Scott is working on setting up an INL tour.
    • USS Idaho Float status.  Float will not be attending commissioning, it will be repainted and we are looking for a volunteer to sew new bunting.
    • Winter Farmers Market – Next event 3/7/2026. Last one raised $118 for the club.
    • Soup Kitchen Food Drive – 2/28/2026, 1500-2100. Donate food and get a beer. Chance to win 2 tickets to beer fest.
  • New Business
    • Holland Award Presentation – Ross had 3 members volunteer to assist with the upcoming Holland Award Presentation, scheduled for next meeting.
    • Eternal Patrol Ceremony – Ken Kohler’s family has requested an Eternal Patrol Ceremony, 4/25 at Idaho Falls Eagles Lodge.
