This Day in Boat History

8 September 1955 – USS Sailfish (SSR 572) was launched as the first submarine built specifically for Radar picket duty. Sailfish served in that capacity for six years when she was reclassified as an attack submarine on 3 February of that year with the designation (SS 572).
